D-O-S-E boost your Mood!

D-O-S-E boost your Mood!

Don’t worry, be happy!

Every now and again there will be times when for no apparent reason we will feel down or not quite our usual selves. When this happens it is time to tap into our so called ‘happy hormones’ the chemicals our body produces to improve our mood: Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin and Endorphin.

The question is how do they work and how can we stimulate them?

Dopamine

This is the Pleasure hormone stimulated when we achieve a goal.

The best way to stimulate this is by striving to reach achievable goals.

Oxytocin

The Love Hormone which thrives on good relationships

Physical contact like a hug etc. and a good massage release plenty of oxytocin!

Serotonin

The ultimate mood booster turns us into everybody’s best friend!

The following helps stimulates more serotonin:

  1. Light to moderate exercise
  2. Sunlight
  3. Eating Carbohydrates and milk
  4. Happy memories
  5. Massage (starting to see the pattern?)

Endorphin

Known as the pain blocker this neurotransmitter is the body’s natural pain killer.

Rigorous exercise and spicy food stimulate Endorphins but be smart and be careful!

Whilst these chemicals can help to improve our mood remember too much of anything is never a good thing and everything needs a break, so be careful not to try and overstimulate them.
